The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Residency Program offers academics, artists, thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners a serene setting for residencies of up to one month conducive to focused, goal-oriented work, and the unparalleled opportunity to establish new connections with fellow residents from a wide array of backgrounds, disciplines, and geographies. The Foundation’s Bellagio Residency Program has a track record for supporting the generation of important new knowledge addressing some of the most complex issues facing our world, and innovative new works of art that inspire reflection and understanding of global and social issues.

Eligibility and Criteria

  • The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center, through a combination of conferences and residency programs, advances the thought leadership and action-oriented work of scholars, artists, thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners, furthering the Foundation’s pioneering mission to “promote the well-being of humanity around the world.”
  • The Center has a strong interest in proposals that align with this mission, particularly through issues that have a direct impact on the lives of poor and vulnerable populations around the world.
  • These issues include but are not limited to health, economic opportunity and jobs, urban resiliency, food and agriculture, clean energy, the field of philanthropy, and innovation for development.
  • The Academic Writing residency is for university and think tank-based academics, researchers, professors, and scientists working in any discipline.
  • Successful applicants will demonstrate decades of significant professional contributions to their field or show evidence of being on a strong upward trajectory for those earlier in their careers
  • The Center has a strong interest in proposals that align with The Rockefeller Foundation’s efforts to promote the well-being of humanity, particularly through issues that have a direct impact on the lives of poor and vulnerable populations around the world. These issues include but are not limited to health, economic opportunity, urban resilience, as well as food and agriculture.

Awards and Benefits

  • To most effectively integrate the important voice of the arts throughout residency cohorts at the Bellagio Center, we are now holding one annual open call for residencies.
  • The program will continue to welcome the same volume of high caliber artists to Bellagio, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to the arts and demonstrating its perspective that the arts are integral to the discourse around complex global challenges and critical to the well-being of humanity.
  • The Bellagio Center Arts & Literary Arts Residency is for composers, fiction and non-fiction writers, playwrights, video/filmmakers, dancers, musicians, and visual artists who share in The Rockefeller Foundation’s mission of promoting the well-being of humanity around the world and whose work is inspired by or relates to global or social issues.
  • The Practitioner residency is for senior-level policymakers, nonprofit leaders, journalists, private sector leaders and public advocates with ten or more years of leadership experience in a variety of fields and sectors.
